Trusting God in Your Commitments: A Path to Peace

Commitments seem great when we make them. We are excited about opportunities to be a part of something but can feel overwhelmed when the newness has worn off. I often find myself questioning whether I can fulfill them or not. Then, I feel like a faithless fool.  Why do I always freak out before fulfilling commitments I thought were a good idea when making them?  My obligations include homeschooling, teaching a sewing class, and working at a women’s retreat. Some weeks, I’m fine; others, I feel like it’s too much. But now that the retreat is here, I feel I have pushed my limits. I’m having a hard time moving forward.

Prayer is the way we express our thoughts to God.

One of the activities I love to do each day is writing two-way prayers to God. When I write my prayers, I’m able to process how my heart is feeling as I offer it to God in prayer. Then, I write down any Bible verses, songs, or words that come to mind.

This particular day, when I struggled with my commitments, I prayed, “Lord, please give me wisdom when I’m making commitments and the courage to follow through. I’m not worth much without you.”

God’s words to me were: In this moment, daughter, I want you to remember that all things work together for good with my followers.  I lead you each day and each moment of the day. So, take courage! I have overcome the world. You will get the courage you need at the right moment.  For now, I just ask you to obey.  Walk out those steps you know you should be taking by preparing for each commitment.  I am with you. I am always with you!

And God is able to make all grace abound to you,
so that in all things, at all times, having all that you need,
you will abound in every good work.
II Corinthians 9:8

Have you had commitments that when it was the time to fulfill them, you went uh-oh, how am I going to do this? I have more often than I’m willing to admit.  Does it relieve you knowing God will give you the courage at the right moment? What about his instructions to obey and prepare for your commitment? Will you follow through with that?  Comment below and tell me how II Corinthians 9:8 can change your perspective. What practical things can you do to prepare for what God’s calling you to do?

My Heart’s Cry for you is for you to know God is leading you each day. You can count on him to give you courage at the right moment. He is with you, giving you what you need for every good work.

The Lord Determines our Steps

We may be worried about our future, but God is here to help us today. Live life in the present with God. It’s time to live in the now. Breathe today’s air. Be present in today’s conversations. Enjoy today’s food. Keep your thoughts here. Don’t let them wander or wonder about the future. It is best to live today and to think today, too. For the Lord Determines our Steps.

Praying for Today

Yesterday’s disappointments frequently overlap with today’s, particularly when we experience feelings of loss, unforgiveness, or regret. In the same way, our worries about tomorrow can intertwine with our current emotions during times of anxiety, fear, or frustration. So, how can we concentrate our thoughts on the present moment? Praying about today is One way to keep our thoughts in today. God is in today. He can send answers to today’s problems, and you’ll get to see Him work today.

A Sweet Smelling Aroma

As I woke up during a retreat, I was greeted by a pleasant fragrance wafting around the room. It was March, and the orange tree outside was in full bloom. Though I hadn’t noticed the tree as we arrived the night before, its sweet scent inspired me to get dressed and go outside to take a look. As expected, the mature tree was covered in white blossoms, and its aroma was strong enough to reach our second-story windows, which we had left open overnight.

  1. Thank you Kim for sharing your heart about commitments. I too get stressed over commitments I have made. Sometimes it is because I have over committed myself. I am very thankful for God’s grace and empowerment to see me through each commitment to its end.

    1. I overcommit too. Everything seems fun and exciting when it’s far away but when the time comes to actually do it’s Overwhelming. And that’s the title of my next blog.

  2. I could write a book on this subject. I struggle with commitment, mostly because of the next blog title, feeling Overwhelmed.

    1. I am so thankful God wants to hear our hearts when we are feeling we can’t keep to our commitments and feeling overwhelmed. He is a breath prayer away. And loves to help when we ask.
