Sometimes I wonder about what I’m not praying about! It seems like my daily prayers are so narrow and hit only a few things (subjects). For example: I pray about my family’s safety all the time, I pray for wisdom for everything going on in my week, and at certain times of year I pray for sick people. But what am I missing? Lord, what do you want to talk about?
Prayer: Jesus, I think I’m in a prayer rut. I seem to pray about the same list of things again and again. I really do care about the safety of my family and the requests/concerns of the people around me. But I feel like I’m missing something. What do YOU want to talk about?
God’s Word to Us: I want to talk about you. Most of your prayers are for others, and although that’s good, I’m glad you’re lifting them up – but I’m talking to you. So I want to hear about you. What thoughts and feelings are you having today? To share these is most intimate and I love to hear about them very much.
“Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need,
and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation,
but rescue us from the evil one.”
Matthew 6:10-13
My Heart’s Cry: is for us to think about our prayer life once in a while. Step back and think what you are actually praying each day? How would it feel to be on the other side of that prayer? In God’s words to us we are reminded that He wants to hear about us, our thoughts and feelings. In the Lord’s Prayer, we are given more ideas on what to pray about.
Let’s get back to what your relationship with God is all about. The relationship is about you and Him. Treat it accordingly. It’s not about all the people you are worried about. It’s time to leave that all aside and just talk together – you and Him as friends.
“Look! I stand at the door and knock.
If you hear my voice and open the door,
I will come in,
and we will share a meal together as friends.”
Revelations 3:20
Think . . . what would He ask you? What does He want to talk about? I think deep down we already know. So take some time and have a fresh, new conversation today – about you!
And if you’re still super concerned about all your friends you normally talk about, remember this verse.
“I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me.
Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.
But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33
See? He has that covered.
Enjoy your talk and your friendship with Him today.
