Yesterday I had some extra time while my daughter was being tested so I decided to take a walk. This route I had taken hundreds of times with my kids. But this time school was in session so this bike/walk path was pretty vacant and I was alone. The end of this path leads up to triangle shaped park. I usually walk all the way around it and walk back the way I came. I started my walk around the park and came across 3 men who seemed to be loitering. I didn’t like the expressions on their faces and they made me nervous. They were the only ones at the park.
While walking away from them a verse I had been memorizing popped into my head and I reviewed it with new meaning.
I will bless the Lord who guides me;
even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
Psalm 16:7-8
My heart was so soothed by these words. They made me feel safe again because they reminded me of God’s promise to always be at my side. I am not alone.
At the other side of the park, I decided to head through the housing tract and hit another bike path back to my car. Thankfully I know the area well so I could do this. I did not want to walk by these bored and possibly mischievous men again.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for guiding me to take another path back. Thank you for reminding me of this verse right when I needed it. I needed to know you are always with me, I will not be shaken because you are right beside me.
God’s Word to us: Kind daughter, yes I am always at your side. You see the enemy can be there too seeking whom he can devour. He would like to steal your peace, your joy and your strength. I’m glad you remembered to keep your eyes on me by remembering this key verse. Review it often so it’s close to your heart. Then when the enemy comes he will not be able to devour you because you will always know I’m right by your side.
My Heart’s Cry is for us to have a verse in our hearts that will combat lies Satan freaks us out with. Here are a couple of verses to remind us what our enemy is all about.
The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. I Peter 5:8
Thankfully God’s purposes is to give us a rich and satisfying life, one who is not robbed by fear at every turn. I was tempted to be afraid on my walk, but then that fear was defeated and turned into faith when I remembered my memory verse.
I would love to hear verses you combat fear with. Please comment and encourage all our readers across the world. They will be so blessed and so will I. Thank you for participating.
Have a blessed week. -Kim
