Tender Shoots

Today I was looking at the seeds my daughter and I planted a week ago. A thankful heart welled up inside of me. You can see the actual picture . . .  how cute are those little plants! They are having a really good start inside our house. What I’m concerned about is when they go outside into the garden. You see, there are a lot of pests out there. Insects that want to make my tender plants their lunch! Munch, Munch, Munch. I don’t want that to happen, because I want those plants to grow well, mature, and produce yummy fruit and vegetables for my family.

Prayer:  Lord, please protect my young plants. Show me when they are ready to go out into the garden. Help me to know how to deal with the insects who want to eat my garden. I know they’re not ready yet; I’m just nervous about putting my plants outside.

God’s Word to Us:  Rest assured, I put the bugs out there too. They are all shapes and sizes and they have a purpose too.  I will help you though, to control them so you get to eat some produce. My world is big and complex, your world is relatively small and the garden is even smaller still. I look after all three. I love you. I’m glad you are doing this. Don’t be afraid.

He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Colossians 1:17

My Heart’s Cry  for us is to take even the smallest fear to Jesus. This one seems so inconsequential because honestly, if our garden science project doesn’t work out, I’ll go to the market and pick up some tomatoes, corn and watermelon. I love how God cares about the littlest things in our lives and  gives us reassurances.  Through it He reminded me that He’s taking care of my world and this really big and complex world too.

Jesus said, “That is why I tell you not to worry about everyday life—whether you have enough food to eat or enough clothes to wear.  For life is more than food, and your body more than clothing.  Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds! Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?  And if worry can’t accomplish a little thing like that, what’s the use of worrying over bigger things?

So really . . .  whatever worry you have, big or small, give it to our very big and capable God.

I’m so glad He cares.
