Learn God’s Rest

As one who suffers from an Autoimmune disease, I have to carefully balance work and rest. Sometimes I get overly ambitious and pile on too many tasks to complete. I don’t take time to rest, so I hit a wall. Then I can’t do anything productive the rest of the day. I have to “save” some energy for my evening tasks like making dinner and climbing the stairs to tuck my daughter into bed. I was reading the scripture that says, “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.”  My thought was: Do I live in the shelter of the Almighty? What does that look like?”

God’s Word to Us: Come to Me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take up My yoke for My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Shoulders hurt because of much too heavy burdens. The body is delicate and can only shoulder so much burden or stress. Come to Me first for rest. Rest good and rest well. And when it’s time to resume those activities or those responsibilities, then ask Me what is necessary. I promise you I will provide for you the right amount of activity for your growth but not be an ill fitting load. But you must learn to rest. Rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I love you and I don’t want you too tired to do your work. So rest when I tell you. You’ve been pushing it lately. So stop. My heart’s quick response was, “I know I have. I wanted it all cleaned up. I was just so tired of my house being messy and cluttered.”

God further encouraged my heart by saying, “But you need to rest when I say rest, no matter what. Take breaks. You are not a machine, you are one who suffers from an illness and who won’t get better if you keep pushing it. I know your body intimately and I know it’s breaking points . . . where you have been doing damage again. Please just stop if I say stop.”

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary
and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you,
because I am humble and gentle at heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy to bear,
and the burden
I give you is light.

May you enjoy God’s rest daily.
