Mom Worries

Moms face many concerns raising their children. Her job is to keep them safe, clothed and fed. Sounds simple enough but we all know it’s a huge job. A mom’s heart is stretched in a zillion ways during the growing up years. But I think one of the hardest periods of time is when a child learns to drive and goes out that door without you. When they get old enough to pick out their own transportation, things can get even more worrisome.

Currently my adult son has decided to have an electric bike as his transportation. This is good for him because it keeps his expenses down while he builds his career. It is not good for me because I worry about him being on the roads. With today’s technology, I can watch his dot on google maps to see if he’s still moving. If he’s moving, he’s alive, right? My mind thinks of the one driver who won’t see him.

I bring my troubled heart to God quite often concerning my son’s transportation choice and his safety. My thoughts are full of my worries and solutions – solutions moms like me think I can help God with.

Dear God, Please be with my son today as he goes to work and back on his bicycle. Help other drivers to see him. Make him alert and clear the road of any debris that could cause his tire to slip. Send angels to protect him from harm. Keep evil people away that would want to tease or hurt him. Help his bike to function well and be a good transportation for him. And Lord, please let this not be a long period of time that he uses a bike for his transportation. Amen.

God’s Word to Us: My word to you dear is to not be afraid. I hear a lot of fear in your voice. Fight fear as if it were a plague. What do you do to fight fear? You have to give it all to me. You are holding on to your son too tightly again. Release him to me. You will feel a lot better when you do. You don’t need this stress when I have already said I will take care of him. I will watch out for him. I love him so much more than you could ever imagine. Do you trust me with his life? Do you trust me with his safety? Let’s get back to that trust again and you will feel much better.

My Heart’s Cry is for us to listen to God’s words about fear and fight it as if it were a plague. You know what you sit there in your chair worrying about. Our adult children cause us a lot of worry. I’m amazed how this does not go away. My oldest son travels for work. I’m so glad I usually don’t know his schedule, because when I do I worry for his safety too. It’s hard to keep this fear in check. Notice the part of “God’s word To Us” that said: “Let’s get back to that trust again.” Well, that’s because it’s an ongoing battle for this mom.

“”Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace,
which exceeds anything we can understand.
His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”

Ways to fight fear:
* PRAY Talk to God about your fear. Release the tight grip you have and give that person or situation over to Him.
* DISTANCE YOURSELF FROM THE SITUATION Do I need to watch google maps to see where my son is? Whatever you are doing to track a child or a situation, to make sure everything is okay, decide to have limits or not do it at all. Maybe stop asking your adult child about the thing you worry most about for them.
* REMIND YOURSELF THAT GOD HAS A PLAN for that loved one or situation you’re so worried about. His plan is much bigger and filled with more thoughtful details than your mind could ever imagine.

Pursue righteousness and a godly life,
along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.
Fight the good fight for the true faith.

These are everyday conversations with my Lord and Savior Jesus. When I write them, I’m in the deep and hard work of trusting God in the midst of uncertain circumstances. Please know it is hard work being a Christian. We are constantly wrestling with this idea of not taking back the control of our lives and trusting God instead.

Example: I could buy my son a car but that would not be good for him. He needs to grow and make his own decisions. I acknowledge that you are in the same battle. And I encourage you to fight the good fight of faith.

Verses used: Ephesians 4:6-7 & I Timothy 6:11&12.

Be encouraged!

Kim
