Weekly, I drive past a place in the road where my son drove his first car off a 50 foot cliff. Thankfully that afternoon three years ago he survived that crash but his car did not. You see, there was a curve in the road. He continued driving straight and didn’t turn with the road. Strangely, that road closed the next week for almost an entire year because of a landslide that caused severe buckling of the road. Neither one of us had to face driving by that spot. But when it did reopen, I started driving that country road again.
When I got to the place in the road where he drove off the cliff, I started processing my emotions. First, it was a huge sense of relief. “Oh my God, thank you for saving my son!” But then my emotions turned into dread. I had very negative feelings every time I reached that point in the road. For example, I would think: “My son almost lost his life over there.” I tried to cover up my fears by using distractions. For example, playing loud music or listening to a podcast. But that only worked sometimes. I was getting tired of this battle in my heart. Additionally, I could finally relate to the cross markers I saw along other streets or roads. Although there wasn’t a visible cross marker, there was a cross marker in my heart, because every time I drove by that spot, my heart was deeply affected.
Prayer: Lord, I need this to be a healthy place again in my heart. I want to be able to drive past this spot and not have negative or scary thoughts. Please heal me.
God’s Word to Us: I long to heal you there. It is time to remove that cross and take down the marker in your soul so you can live the new life I have given you today. I will take away the sting, the pain you sense from that particular turn in the road. I will heal you today. Thank you for coming to me about this. I do care that you still felt sorrow driving by there. It was a tragic event, whether I bring that person home with me or back to live with their family again. So my daughter, live a life of freedom and joy no matter what turn you take.
Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.
Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.
My Heart’s Cry for us is to take a difficult turn in our road of life, that has caused us grief and great sorrow, to Jesus. He says He longs to heal us there. He doesn’t want us stuck with negative feelings while traveling on any road we need to take. He wants us to live in freedom. Take a moment and ask Him to release you from those negative feelings. Ask Him to remove the cross marker that was placed in your heart by a tragic event.
Maybe your loved one died there. You want to remember and not forget. I ask you this, do you think they want you to remember them that way? No, they wouldn’t. There are much better ways to remember them. How about all the wonderful memories you shared together?
This is a powerful thing God wants to do in your heart. You will notice a difference. And you will be freer than you have been for a long while. This last week, when I drove past that spot, I noticed the emotional dread and heaviness were gone. God had answered my prayer and healed me from the negative and scary thoughts I’d previously had. The negative marker had been removed by His supernatural power.
The verse above has been my son’s favorite verse since childhood. I thought it very fitting to include it here.
I asked my son how he feels when driving close to that turn in the road. He said he gets nervous sometimes. But most of the time he doesn’t even think about it. I find it interesting that we processed this event so differently.
Thank you for listening to my heart concerning this. If this renewing redeeming process is something you need to address in your heart, please comment. I would love to be praying for you. If you’ve already gone through the process of healing for a tragic event, please encourage all of us by commenting.
Blessings to you all,
