What’s for Dinner tonight?

How often do you stand there with the refrigerator door open asking this question, “what’s for dinner?” I do it often.  It seems this week all the creativity I need to make dinner is gone.  I have food in the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry. But it is me who cannot figure out what to make. I don’t know what I’m hungry for, let alone the rest of my family.

My Prayer: Lord, please help me figure out what to serve my family for dinner each night. I get so bored! I seriously cannot think of anything I’d want to serve tonight. Thanks in advance for your help, for I know You are faithful.

God’s Word to Us: I would love to help you! You are not alone in your quandary. It is a lot of responsibility to think of meals every night for your family. It’s a big but important job as a wife and a mom. With each day that goes by, your family gets what they need because you take time to care for them and for their health.

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything.
Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand.
H
is peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6-7

My Heart’s Cry for us is to tell God what we need before we start to sulk, get frustrated, or get grouchy. It says here, “Don’t worry about anything.” I was certainly worried about what I was going to serve my family. Because even before I opened that refrigerator door I was out of ideas and getting agitated. And honestly, the only thing that’s saving tonight’s dinner is that I know God is faithful to help me cook. I need God’s peace in this area. How about you?

As I was writing these words in my journal, I heard Him say, “Listen to your family.” So I am going to do this. Sometimes we run out of ideas because we focus on what we want. I look forward to hearing what they want. Maybe their requests will spark my creativity too.

Have a great week!!!

  1. I understand what you mean. Tonight was cheese Quesadillas. All that’s needed is cheese, butter, and corn tortillas. Whatever extra stuff is around add that to like tomatoes, sour cream etc.wella there you go.

  2. Well, I can relate to this challenge and it just doesn’t surprise me that the Lord would have us look outside of ourselves for the answer! What a brilliant opportunity to love on our family and make them feel special! All because we are willing to serve others instead of ourselves. Thank you for the encouragement once more!
