Overindulgence

I’m reading the “Made to Crave” devotional book because I need some encouragement to start eating right again. Recently I have gone way off track and I’m probably gaining pounds again. But I won’t step on the scale to verify it (that would be a whole other blog post). I’ve just been thinking, if I’m not gaining weight, why else would I feel so fat? And, what other things (other than food) have I been holding on to for far too long? Like the baby fat that never came off. What else do I need to shed? What other areas in my life need attention?

Prayer:  Lord, when I look at different parts of my life like this, it opens my eyes pretty wide. I see that I overindulge in so many areas of my life.  Also, I have kept things for way too long. I have weight issues in more than one area of my life.

God’s Word to us:  I see that you do but I still love you very much. When you are willing to work on one of these areas, let me know.  We can do it together. I don’t want you to feel alone in it.

It’s not good to eat too much honey, and it’s not good to seek honors for yourself.”  Proverbs 25:27

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! Galatians 5:22-23

My Heart’s Cry for us is that you look and really see the areas of your life where you are overweight or overindulgent  Choose which one you would like to tackle first. Talk to God about it, ask for His help, and take the time to get rid of that extra weight. Maybe it is physical weight. If so, then have the courage to start eating healthy again. Or, it could be a closet that is overstuffed. Let go of the extra weight of too many possessions, because it might just be weighing you down. Share your extras and bless someone in need. Remember, our security is in our relationship with God, not in our possessions. Maybe it’s overindulgence in spending too much money or time on something. Cut back. Simplify. You will weigh less.

God is just waiting for you to see the need to start offloading what is unnecessary. He loves you no matter what. So when you want to work on it, pray and let Him know. Ask Him for His help. I know I definitely need His help and wisdom. He will always be faithful to do His part. I need to do my part.

Blessings to you this day.

  1. Kim,

I love this! It’s amazing how much lighter you feel when you let go of things that have been weighing you down. I feel a complete since of relief which helps me to continue on my weight loss journey. When other issues in life are weighing me down, I turn to food. Donuts never tell me no. I’ve heard the book, Made to Crave is an excellent book! I’ve also enjoyed these books which I believe are in the same category if you want to check them out.
