Losing Someone You Love

Losing someone you love is one of hardest times in life. This week my husband and I had to say goodbye to his father.  It was truly one of the hardest things we’ve done. He was a godly man and always lent a helping hand to our growing family. Today we remember the 5 year mark of my father and my husband’s aunt who died on the same day. It’s so sad! All three have died of cancer. We miss each of them dearly.

Prayer: Jesus, it’s so hard to get over the passing of loved ones.  Yes, it’s wonderful they are with you, because each of them chose to accept your free gift of salvation and had a relationship with you. But in my heart, I’m just sad. I’m truly missing the sweet ones who have passed.

God’s Word to Us: I know it’s hard. It was hard for me too when Lazarus died before I resurrected him. I was able to do that for him and his grieving sisters. I know that is in the heart of everyone. But this is where I need to say let go. Let them come to a happier place. Let them have rest after a long, hard life full of trials and tragedies. It is their time to rest. Someday it will be your turn to rest too. And you will be truly thankful for that rest just like they are now, here in my presence.

“For those who follow godly paths will rest in peace when they die.”  Isaiah 57:2

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”  I Peter 5:7

My Heart’s Cry for us is to let go when we need to let go. Saying goodbye is never easy. It is necessary for us to accept the place we are in and really, to also accept the place they are now in too. It takes faith. Faith that God takes care of His people after they have passed and faith that we will, in time, adjust to living the rest of our lives without them. During this transition time, right after a death, give your sorrow, worries, and cares to God. He deeply cares about all your needs. He is the father to the fatherless and takes care of the widows.  Rest in His care.
