The Quiet after the Storm

I am feeling empty and quiet.  I’ve been busy for months and now those obligations are over. This holiday season I had a house full of activity and when everyone left, it was very quiet. It was good spending time with family. But now I must resume my normal life. Please help me understand why this transition feels like this?

God’s words to us: It will take a few days but then normal will feel good again. It will even feel refreshing. The normal rhythm of life is healthy and a real retreat for the soul.  When we take on more for a while, we lose those little pockets in our day we’ve built in for refreshment. I’m glad you are back to your normal daily life and soon you will be too.

You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever. Psalm 16:11

My hearts cry is for you to remember that we can bring Him anything in prayer and He will show us the way of life. Thankfully God reminds us that the normal rhythm of life is healthy. It has its own treasures, like those pockets of time we’ve built in for refreshment. Many of our refreshment times are with God and the joy of His presence. Some are just a quiet moment staring off someplace and that’s okay too.

I would encourage you today to look for your own pockets of time and be thankful. I’d love to hear how doing this helps you.

  1. Thank you for sharing so beautifully Kim! It felt good to wake up and spend time with the Lord before leaving the house today…that didn’t always happen during this season! But getting back to that is life-breathing for me!
May the Lord bless you and your family in the coming year!!

    1. Aww yes, the quiet moments with the Lord in the morning before entering the busyness of the day. Precious pocket of refreshment you had today. Thank you for sharing Karen. And may God bless you and your family as well.

  2. Well, I don’t have that pocket of time as my normal. So I guess taking time to read your blog is good for me. Need more of it I think.
